Stories / Moral Code
Be the hero of your own life.
At Rio 2016, Jiří Beran reported a touch that wasn't his, and lost the bout. Moral Code is his story: what led up to it, what followed, and what is still to come.
The comic comes out after Christmas. Limited editions may sell out.

Premiere, 17 October 2026
On Saturday 17 October we presented Moral Code on Na Příkopě. Jiří Beran fenced right on the street outside the Steiner & Kovařík store, and kids tried their first lunges. Athletes signed collector cards, and inside, people got a first look at the pages of the comic.
Moral Code won its first fans and enthusiasts, who want to spread the word.
The premiere in a minute. Jiří invites you to support the project, straight from the Steiner & Kovařík store.
What was on show on Na Příkopě, you can have at home.

Thank you to Jiří Beran, to everyone who came, and to everyone who helped: co-organisers David Černý and Steiner & Kovařík, host Roxi from the Gamechangers community, cosplayers @sewzie_cosplay, @wookie.lada, @deni.cosplay and @shiki.seraty, all the athletes, photographers Tomáš Rábek and Karolína Hrušková, and the Botas and Vasky stores.

Silent auction
At the premiere we offered two paintings with Moral Code motifs in a silent auction. Jiří Beran signed them right there at the event. The small painting sold on the evening of the premiere, the large one two days later. The CZK 22,800 raised goes into making the comic.

Story partner
Prague chocolate maker Steiner & Kovařík created a limited bean-to-bar chocolate for Moral Code, in a wrapper with motifs from the comic. Every bar comes with a Jiří Beran collector card. It first went on sale at the premiere, in their store on Na Příkopě.
Where to buy: In the pre-order, the chocolate comes in the Fair Play gift (CZK 549) and in the Christmas bundles Fair Play Christmas (CZK 549) and Fair Play Christmas with dragées (CZK 1,249). You can add another bar to any reward: milk for CZK 159, dark for CZK 189.

The story
Would you have admitted it?
Fencing is decided in milliseconds, and character shows just as fast. Nobody else saw it: not the referee, not his opponent. Jiří reported it anyway.
Moral Code follows a boy who grows into an Olympic fencer, and a masked hero who learns that fairness is not a weakness.
Today Jiří works with young people and teaches them the same thing. The comic grew out of that work.
“Fair play should start in childhood. And if someone didn't get it as a child, they have to learn it.” Jiří Beran at the premiere, 17 October 2026

Jiří's book Zásahy mého života, with a personal dedication, comes in the Christmas bundle with the book (CZK 599) and in the Fencer's Edition (CZK 2,490). You can add it to any reward for CZK 399.
The world
Ezequiel Di Savino is drawing Issue #01 by hand in Buenos Aires, from the first sketch to the finished page. We showed the first pages at the premiere; the comic comes out after Christmas.

The team

Story
The author of the whole story, who sets the direction Moral Code takes. An Olympic fencer who has devoted himself fully to children since his career ended. Together with his dad, he set up a foundation supporting young fencers, and he travels to schools to teach kids how to fence and how to win fair. The Moral Code comic carries his idea further – even to places he can’t reach himself.
